The first thing I should probably mention is that we have arrived safely in India. Our class is around 24 people, mostly girls and a few guys. We also have one guy from India and another one from Afghanistan. Our class is amazing, my classmates are really open minded and social.

My first impression of India is that it’s very chaotic and noisy. When you look down the street you always see stray dogs, garbage, a hundred cars and scooters and people all over the place. The Indian people are not afraid of anything, including cars and even trains. Here it’s all about walking or driving, even though it might seem to chaotic to handle sometimes. Since we got here we had four days of classes, which has been really interesting. We have also gotten an apartment, each room with a roomie. My roomie is a girl from Stocholm, she’s really nice and helps me out if I need anything. The internet here sucks BTW, it’s so annoying. To make it work we have to sit on the stone stairs two floors down.

Before I left I was a little bit concerned about how the bus and the school locals were going to be. Every morning we get picked up by a private buss at 7.45. Our school is at a beach resort, it’s really pretty and the staff is nice. We also get two meals at the school every day, breakfast and lunch.

So far, none of us have gotten sick yet. We have been really careful with the food, or at least I have. Taking no chances, that’s what we keep on telling one another. The teachers here are helpful and listening to them during class is both interesting and inspiring. This Friday we’re going to choose the theme for out group project. I’m very confused of what I will choose because it all seems so interesting. I think I’m thorn between gender inequality and structural violence.

We have also been shopping a lot, trying to look like we fit in with the locals. You get a lot of attention in India, I don’t see any point dressing in a western way and getting even more. Here it’s all about covering the knees. Shoulders are also a conservative thing, but it’s not as strict. Things here are ofc cheap, so a skirt will cost around 200 rupees, 20 kr.

I hope you guys liked my first blog post. I will try to keep everyone updated once a week.
