A few weeks ago, Kulturstudier arranged India Day for us at the study center. We dressed up in colorful traditional saris, decorated ourselves with flowers and jewels. Everyone looked smashing, so elegant. However, the temperature did become a bit of a problem… I’m so impressed by the women who wear these saris everyday.

We watched a classical Indian dance performance, the dances telling fantastic stories about Gods and superhumans. Every single part of the body was perfectly coordinated. Eyes, toes and fingers all play an important part. The tricky rhythms and dramatic facial expressions made it a thrilling séance! Something you absolutely have to experience while in India.

At the end of the day we were served south Indian food on banana leafs. We tasted all the different dished with great enthusiasm. It was without a doubt the best Indian meal I have had so far! This day summed up south Indian culture so nicely, with traditional costumes, music, dance and food. I always try to explore these elements when meeting a new culture, since they offer an exciting glimpse into other people’s traditions!
