The long weekend in Ghana is one that most of the students will forever remember for one experience or the other. While some students decided to travel long journeys for the long weekend, others spent it not too far from Cape Coast. The longest journey perhaps travelled for the weekend was that to the Mole National Park in the Northern Region of Ghana. Before Mole, the students made stops at Kumasi of the Ashanti Kingdom. Kumasi is one of the oldest settlements in Ghana known for its rich culture and the different groups of people from all parts of the country. Another stop was made at Kintampo. Here, the students visited the Kintampo falls. Kintampo waterfalls is one of the highest waterfalls in Ghana. Known in the colonial days as the Sanders fall it is located on the Pumpum river, a tributary of the Black Volta. The fall is about 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) north of Kintampo municipality, on the Kumasi-Tamale road. The beautiful scenery of this fall almost prevented the students from leaving the place.

The Mole National Park presented another beautiful scenery of nature. The park has hundreds of different birds, butterflies and other animal species. Some of the animals include antelopes, buffaloes, elephants, monkeys, wart hugs among others. While some of the animals are seen only at specific times of the year, most of them are believed to be present all the time. One fascinating moment was with a 40yr old African Savanna Elephant. While the tourist guide had informed us about this particular elephant, we were pleasantly surprised to meet other elephants as well. It was a beautiful moment as these huge mammals moved together towards the visitors in the park.
Other places that were visited by other students for the long weekend include the Afadjato Mountains and Wli Waterfall all in the Volta Region, the Green Turtle Lodge-Cape Coast, Shai Hills Natural Reserve, and the volta estuary (Ada)
It was a great LONG WEEKEND for us all.
